Two people were detained on Wednesday during searches in Hainaut and Luxembourg as part of a healthcare fraud investigation, according to the Office of the Labour Auditor for Liège-Namur-Luxembourg.

The suspects were held in custody pending questioning by investigators.

The investigation targets a company providing nursing care at several facilities for people with disabilities in Wallonia. Authorities suspect the company of billing health insurance funds for services that were never actually rendered.

The fraud has been estimated at €1.6 million.

The Federal Judicial Police (PJF) of Namur conducted the searches on Wednesday at the headquarters of two companies and the home of an individual in Hainaut, as well as in Luxembourg, where one of the suspects resides.

In addition to the detentions, computer equipment was seized during the operation.

A judge from the Namur Judicial District has been assigned to the case, which involves allegations of criminal organisation, forgery, use of forgery, and fraud under social criminal law.
