Smoke was detected at the Eddy Merckx metro station on Thursday lunchtime, causing traffic on line 5 to be halted between Érasme and La Roue stations, according to public transport operator STIB.
The Eddy Merckx station was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Brussels firefighters are currently on-site dealing with the incident.
The exact cause of the smoke remains unknown at this time.
