The Flemish parliament almost unanimously adopted the decree to merge the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge on Wednesday evening, making the long-planned initiative official.
Only the PVDA (PTB in Flanders) voted against the decree, Belga News Agency reports.
The merger was announced a year ago, but with the official adoption of the decree is now expected to be finalised on 22 April.

The merger of the two ports is intended to make them more competitive.
The “Port of Antwerp-Bruges” will be the most important container port and the largest vehicle transhipment port in Europe, in addition to being one of the largest general cargo ports.
The coastal location of Zeebrugge combined with the industrial hub of Antwerp should position the port to become a European leader in hydrogen.
