Germany sets new record for Covid-19 infections

Germany is continuing to set records for new coronavirus infections.

The Robert Koch Institute for Health Surveillance (RKI) reported 297,845 infections in 24 hours on Friday morning, according to Belga News Agency.

This is the highest number of coronavirus cases recorded in one day for Germany since the beginning of the pandemic.

Figures are also on the rise in Belgium, and new variants of the virus are circulating throughout Europe.

Germany's incidence rate, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the past seven days, has risen to 1,706.3, the RKI reports. This is also a new record.

The incidence was 1,651.4 on Thursday and 1,439 a week ago.

The country has also recorded 226 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 126,646 in Germany.
