Regional Mobility Minister Elke Van den Brandt estimated that the cost for a metro extension to the northwest of Brussels could cost €300-450 million, reported La Derniere Heure.

Although the Brussels metro in the north, south-west and east go to the borders of the region, that isn't the case in the north-west. Here, the metro stops at Simonis at the edge of Elisabeth Park, over 3km from the regional border.

But an extension of the metro would be costly. “An initial cost estimate is in the range of €300 – 450 million,” confirmed Brandt when questioned by the Mobility Committee on Tuesday.

How long the works would take is unclear and even if the metro were planned for 2032, Brand believes it would take longer. If the extension goes ahead, it would be the first metro extending all the way to the border of a Flemish region.
