A 21-year-old motorist who deliberately knocked down a 67-year-old cyclist in Roeselare on Friday night has been formally charged with attempted murder, Belga News Agency reports.
A psychiatrist is to be designated to evaluate him.
The event took place at about 6:00 PM on Friday, when the motorist deliberately drove into the cyclist to make him get off the road, then drove off.
A witness taped the incident and the suspect’s father-in-law called the police shortly after.
The driver said he was angry at the world and had wanted to do something to resolve the problem of over-population. He also tested positive for drugs.
For a brief moment, the victim was in a critical state, but his life was not in danger, the Office of the Public Prosecutor said on Saturday.
