A converted pigeon coop with a footprint of hardly ten square metres has just opened as the world's smallest Airbnb right in the heart of Liège.

Packed into the small space are a bedroom, a kitchen, a separate toilet and shower, and even a living room, Le Soir reports.

Described as “unusual accommodation, perfect for a couple or a single traveller,” photos showcase the unusual property and its garden while touting its proximity to the city centre and amenities.

Simplicity and uniqueness

Having only recently gone live on Airbnb, reviews are few for now. Those that have been written praise the property’s practicality, simplicity, comfort and unusualness.

“We thought it was complicated to go upstairs with our suitcases. So we came up with the solution of creating a piece of furniture that goes up and down,” Benjamin Van Santen, the designer of the refurbished pigeon house, explained to RTBF.

“A lift in the shape of a piece of furniture was designed to provide maximum comfort for visitors.”

In total, it took almost five months to transform the former pigeon house into one for people. The work was carried out with its ecological footprint in mind, with an interior made mainly of wood.

Cork and hemp were used for the insulation. The oils, paints and waxes needed for the work were made from clay.

The bedroom can be accessed by a ladder hanging on the wall. The dining room table folds down to create space downstairs and storage units are retractable.
