On Thursday, the Brussels fire services were called nearly 30 times to help with problems caused by the strong winds of up to 90 km/h.

The Royal Meteorological Institute (MRI) issued a yellow alert for the entire Brussels region, a signal for people to be mindful of potential dangers.

At around 17:30, the Brussels fire service already finished 21 interventions, announced spokesperson Walter Derieuw. These included five uprooted trees and 15 different objects that were blown away, such as roof tiles, and zinc plates.

Two people also got injured as a result of the weather, he added. "One person was hit by a plate falling from a wall fresco, and one woman was blown over by the wind," Derieuw said. On the Chaussée de Waterloo in Uccle, an uprooted tree also fell on a car. Currently, six interventions are still in progress.

Across the Region, regional parks, nature reserves and woods, including the Sonian Forest, closed to the public on Thursday morning and will open again on Friday 8 April at 08:00.
