A fire broke out on Wednesday evening in a mansion at Place Van Meyel in Etterbeek, where an elderly person was thought to be living. The cause of the fire is not yet clear, the Brussels fire brigade reported.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at 18:20 to find a blazing fire in the three-story townhouse. The fire burnt through the entire third floor and the attic of the mansion.
The fire brigade faced difficulties fighting the flames because of the house’s wooden floors, as well as a lot of stuff being piled up in the house, making it troublesome to access. The floors underneath the house suffered water damage from the efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Rescue teams found a body at the scene and one resident is officially registered at the address, though it has not yet been confirmed that the victim is the missing resident.
