From 1 July, dentists in Belgium will no longer be allowed to charge additional fees to patients under the status of Beneficiary of the Increased Intervention (BIM).

Since 1 January 2025, dentists were already prohibited from applying supplemental charges to BIM patients for certain outpatient services.

Starting 1 July 2026, this ban will extend to all outpatient dental services listed under Article 5 of the nomenclature, according to the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (Inami).

This restriction on fees for BIM patients has already been in place for general practitioners and specialists in Belgium.

The measure aims to ensure accessible care and tariff security for these patients, emphasises Inami.
