The European Commission has cleared Aberdeen and Strabag to take joint control of Hungarian motorway operator MAK under EU merger rules.
The deal involves abrdn Investments Limited — operating as Aberdeen — from the UK and Austria’s Strabag AG acquiring joint control of MAK Mecsek Autópálya Koncessziós Zártkörűen Működő Részvénytársaság in Hungary, the Commission informed on Thursday.
MAK’s business mainly relates to operating a section of two motorways in Hungary.
The Commission said it found the transaction would not raise competition concerns because the companies are not active in the same markets, or in markets that are vertically related — meaning they do not operate at different levels of the same supply chain.
Case reviewed under simplified procedure
The merger was assessed under the EU’s simplified merger review procedure, the Commission said.
