Belgium’s Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a code yellow for Brussels, part of Flanders and almost all of Wallonia ahead of thunderstorms and heavy showers, with the potential for hail in some places.

While Monday morning will have periods of partial sunshine, the day will grow progressively cloudier and rain and showers will arrive from France, the RMI forecasts.

During the course of the day, the precipitation will intensify and will sometimes be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly over the east of the country in the afternoon.

Heavy rain in a short period of time is expected

In areas that experience the most intense conditions, heavy precipitation can be expected in a short period of time (10 to 20 litres/m2 in just one hour), as well as a risk of gales and even a little hail.

The code yellow will last from 12:00 to 21:00 over the provinces of Limburg, Liège, Namur and Luxembourg.

Monday’s high will be between 19 degrees on the coast and 23 degrees in the north of the country, with lows ranging from 7 to 11 degrees in the evening.

This evening will bring calmer weather, though with a few showers still possible, and tomorrow will see more rain and thunderstorms with much cooler temperatures with highs of 14 to 18 degrees.

Wednesday will be dry during the day with clear skies and highs of 15 to 19 degrees.

Thursday will be partly cloudy, with highs around 18 degrees in the centre of Belgium.
