EU industrial production rose by 2.9% in 2025 compared with 2024 when measured in constant prices.

It was the first annual increase since 2022, following declines of 1.5% in 2023 and 1.9% in 2024, Eurostat reported on Monday.

Eurostat measures “value of sold production” in constant prices by adjusting for inflation using a fixed base year — in this case 2021 — to show changes in production volumes over time.

In nominal terms — using the prices actually paid in the year goods were produced — the EU’s value of sold production rose to €6,090 billion in 2025 from €5,869 billion in 2024.

Food products lead growth among major manufacturing groups

Among the five largest groups of manufacturing activities, food products recorded the biggest rise in sold production value in constant prices, up 3.8% compared with 2024 and 11.2% since 2015, Eurostat said.

Machinery and equipment rose by 3.3% in 2025, while motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 0.6%.

Chemicals and chemical products fell by 1.4% compared with 2024, as did fabricated metal products excluding machinery and equipment.

Chemicals and chemical products, and fabricated metal products excluding machinery and equipment, were the only manufacturing groups to record an overall decline over the past decade.
