The European Commission has approved Portobello Capital Fondo IV, Cobega and Sonab’s acquisition of joint control of Spanish companies Caiba and Nosoplas under the EU Merger Regulation.

The deal mainly concerns the market for polyethylene terephthalate packaging, commonly known as PET — a type of plastic widely used for bottles and food containers, the Commission informed on Tuesday.

It said it found the transaction would not raise competition concerns because it would have a limited impact on competition in the markets where the companies are active.

Case details

The merger was reviewed under the EU’s normal merger review procedure.

Further information is available on the Commission’s competition website and in its public case register under case number M.12390.
