Mihail Dumitru has been appointed as the new chair of the Mission Board for the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, the European Commission said.
Dumitru is a former Romanian minister of agriculture and rural development and previously served as a deputy director-general in the Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, according to the Commission’s statement.
He is due to take up the role on 1 September 2026, it added.
Dumitru is scheduled to take part in an OECD conference in Paris on 24 – 25 September titled “Mission forward: Shaping the future through mission-oriented policy”, and the European Mission Soil Week in Dublin on 17 – 18 November, the Commission said.
Who is on the Mission Soil Board
The Mission Soil Board is made up of 13 members, with Dumitru as chair, the Commission said.
Other members include representatives from universities and research organisations in the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Germany, France and Portugal, as well as participants linked to farming and agriculture bodies in Spain and Poland, according to the Commission.
The board’s role is to provide strategic advice on implementing the Mission and to help promote its activities, the Commission said.
