The 27th edition of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, devoted to performing arts, ended on Saturday evening with a positive result, according to the organisers.

“Around 25,000 tickets were sold for the various artistic events at the festival. An additional 6,000 people also attended the free exhibitions and workshops.”

The Kunstenfestivaldesarts, which was held for three weeks in the capital after two years of absence due to the pandemic, saw a much larger audience compared to 2018 and 2019.

This 27th edition also had a much bigger international presence with artists from 21 different countries participating.

The festival invites artists from Belgium and around the world every year to redefine the boundaries of theatre, dance and performance in more than 30 venues around Brussels.

For this edition, the festival was held not only in French-speaking and Dutch-speaking theaters in Brussels, but also in various iconic places in the capital, such as the Parc du Cinquantenaire, L’Archiduc, La Monnaie and the Brussels train station.

“The international productions of François Chaignaud & Geoffroy Jourdain, Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Okwui Okpokwasili, Chassol, Trajal Harrell, El Conde de Torrefiel or even Lia Rodrigues attracted a lot of people,” indicated the organisers.

“Performances in smaller groups, presented in particular places, such as that of Fanny & Alexander at the Senate or of Satoko Ichihara at the Museums of the Far East, have also been very successful,” they added.
