BRUSSELS DESIGN WEEK, various venues in Brussels, September 24 to October 4, 2026
The annual festival that used to be known as Brussels Design September brings together over 300 designers, makers and creatives in 100 venues across the capital. It includes exhibitions, installations, open studios, lectures, markets, tours and workshops across themes of technological innovation, sustainability, new aesthetics, and commerce.
This year's event will also feature a special focus on Art Deco, aligning with Brussels' year-long celebration of the design movement’s centenary.

Some 55 galleries will open their doors during Brussels Art Square (BAS), in the art district of the Sablon, where galleries are usually open by appointment. It's a chance to admire sculptures, paintings, jewellery and furniture spanning 10,000 years of history and artistic trends.

Square Armand Steurs becomes an open-air gallery for The Art Square (not to be confused with Brussels Art Square, in the Sablon), bringing together 30 Belgian and international sculptors. Monumental contemporary works transform the listed Art Deco park in this free annual Brussels exhibition.

The Artonov festival sneaks contemporary dance, music, workshops and performance art into unlikely venues – from mansions to metro stations –like a cultural squat with better lighting. It’s the only time you’ll see avant-garde choreography unfolding beneath stained glass without anyone calling security.

The ANTE Festival returns for its second edition, celebrating the city’s often-overlooked 19th-century architectural heritage. Across October 3–4 and 10–11, visitors can explore 27 remarkable interiors, including palaces, Masonic lodges and Forest prison, alongside guided walks, tram and cycling tours, tastings, talks and exhibitions revealing the transformations that shaped modern Brussels.

RESTORATION OF THE GHENT ALTARPIECE, Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK), Ghent, until December 31, 2026
The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb – the Ghent Altarpiece – was completed in 1432 by the Van Eyck brothers and is arguably the most important painting in the world. Seven panels are being restored in the MSK, and visitors can see the restorers live at work, in the studio behind glass. The rest of the MSK is also worth checking out, of course.

The sixth Coudenberg Sound Box Fest transforms the underground ruins of Brussels’ former royal palace into a stage for music, history and debate. Under the theme ReConciliations: War & Peace, and curated by Italian flautist Matteo Gemolo, its concerts span medieval and baroque music, jazz, electronics and improvisation, alongside talks exploring music, conflict, memory and resistance.
This year also brings a new collaboration with Bozar and the return of its NextGen programme, supporting emerging international talent while connecting contemporary creativity with Coudenberg’s centuries-old heritage.
