Belgian arrested in record €20 million drug haul

On Tuesday, British customs officials announced the recent arrest of a Belgian man and his Dutch accomplice, following the discovery of 200 kilograms of drugs in their van.

The men, a 68-year-old Belgian and a 60-year-old Dutch national, were intercepted on 10 June and arrested at the British border control of the Channel Tunnel while attempting to enter the United Kingdom.

During a search of their vehicle, customs officers found over of 70 kg of heroin and 125 kg of cocaine hidden in the wall panels of their van.

The 200 kg seizure is one of the largest ever made in the Channel Tunnel and has a total street value estimated at €20.3 million.

Both men have been charged with importing class A drugs, which could see them face life sentences in prison.
