With the sun shining on Belgium and temperatures rising, eating ice cream becomes an activity in its own right for many Belgians. But, after touring the usual spots for ice cream, some are looking for something new and different. In Brussels, there are several outlets offering rather singular concepts. Here is a selection of five which have got the tastebuds tingling...
Cones Brussels

For four years now, this New York brand has been established in Brussels, more precisely in Ixelles, offering ice creams that could not be more original: a sweet potato ice cream, a corn ice cream, a quince sorbet... These are just some of the unexpected flavours that you can taste at Cones, but rest assured, as surprising as these may be, gourmets are unanimous in their appreciation of these unusual combinations.

Franklin Fresh Ice Cream Bar

Open for only a few days, the pop-up Franklin Ice Cream is the new kid on the block. Throughout the summer, the ice cream recipes of the famous Belgian brand will be offered in small edible jars. A way to relieve ourselves of guilt for eating our ice cream in a jar and thus avoid unnecessary waste, but above all a simplified way to eat ice cream when we are afraid of getting into a mess with a leaky cone.

Nanouk

At Nanouk, you can forget about the difficult choice between the small cup or the cone. This place offers 100% natural ice cream on sticks. Moreover, the word "Nanouk" means "iced stick coated with chocolate" in Walloon. Here, the products are seasonal and as locally sourced as possible.
