A Flemish cycling tourist is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Malmedy, Liège Province, on Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle tested positive for cannabis, according to the Liège public prosecutor’s office.

The victim was part of a group of Flemish tourists who were cycling along the road when some of them decided to make an about turn. At that moment, a car coming in the opposite direction drove head-on into one of the cyclists.

The victim was taken to a hospital and remained in a life-threatening condition on Tuesday evening, the prosecutor’s office said.

The driver of the vehicle, born in 1983, was under the influence of cannabis. His driver’s license has been revoked for 15 days.

A traffic expert was sent to the scene of the accident.
