Maintenance works on the A12 in direction of Antwerp, that have been underway since Friday evening, are causing significant traffic jams on Tuesday morning.
The Flemish Traffic Centre has advised motorists heading to Antwerp this morning to avoid the A12 and instead opt for the longer route on the E19, which goes from Brussels to the Flemish city.
This is due to maintenance works on the motorway as well the first morning rush hour of the week.

According to Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Centre, "there is a seven kilometer long bottleneck from Boom onwards" on the A12.
The works were originally supposed to end by Wednesday morning but have been extended until Thursday morning, since the heat has forced the asphalt to cool more slowly.
