Two activists bared their breasts at German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sunday demanding a gas embargo against Russia, reported De Standaard.
The protestors took advantage of a government open house this weekend to stand before the Chancellor. Visitors to the event had the opportunity to have their photo taken with Scholz, which gave the activists the chance to remove their tops at the photo session. ‘Gas embargo now’, could be read on their upper bodies. They also scattered fake money.
Scholz remained calm during the incident, while security surrounded the two women and ushered away.

Germany is heavily dependent on Russian gas and has so far been unable to impose a complete embargo on Russian gas. The country is looking for alternatives to Russian gas, including coal despite its harmful environmental effects.
Germany had hoped to phase out coal-powered electricity by 2038. But now the government is “swallowing the bitter pill of allowing coal-fired power back onto the grid. It is hoped that this will replace the gas-fired electricity that currently makes up some 10% of Germany's overall energy mix."

Responding to questions from earlier on Sunday, Scholz stressed Berlin's efforts to find alternative energy sources. To this end, liquid natural gas facilities are under construction in Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea coast which could be operational as early as 2023. “Then, our security of supply problem could be resolved by early 2024,” he said.
Germany, like many countries in Europe, is preparing for energy shortages this coming winter.
