South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia have recalled more than 280,000 vehicles due to a defect that could cause fires, US authorities said on Wednesday.

The recall affects 245,030 Hyundai Palisade SUVs and 36,417 Kia Telluride SUVs, both from 2020 to 2022, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Manufacturers have advised owners of the recalled cars to park them outdoors and away from everything else since they can go up in flames, NHTSA added.

The vehicles are equipped with an accessory that is vulnerable to moisture, which can cause a short circuit and spark a fire. The Korean manufacturers have reported 25 incidents in the United States and Canada, but no accidents or injuries.
