The 65th edition of the Ghent Festival of Flanders and the 20th OdeGand event will be celebrated in September with a spotlight on the concept of “time.”
The Ghent Festival of Flanders kicks off on 10 September, with a programme that is bursting with emerging talent and established names such as Joyce DiDonato, Evelyn Glennie, Gidon Kremer and the Bamberger Symphoniker.
“The festival highlights what time means for people, but also serves as a wake-up call to fully enjoy oneself once more and not wait any longer,” said festival director Veerle Simoens.
“The theme of time also puts Marcel Proust in the spotlight. The master writer of the novel cycle ‘A la recherche du temps perdu’ passed away exactly one hundred years ago, in 1922. Especially for this occasion, Ghent Festival dives into his musical world, with concerts and lectures.
"To make this experience extra unforgettable, these events will take place in stately salons on and around the Kouter,” according to the organisers.
OdeGand agenda
For OdeGand, the music festival along Ghent’s inland waterways, there will be a concert on 16 and 17 September on the Graslei and Korenlei.
For the closing spectacle on 17 September, Sioen and Osama Abdulrasol will take to the stage with eight young Ghent talents from various genres and backgrounds. Together they make for a surprising musical cocktail.
