Thursday was a good day for Brussels football clubs with both Anderlecht and Union Saint-Gilloise coming away from their first matches of this season's European campaign with a 1-0 win against Silkeborg and Union Berlin respectively.

Anderlecht left the Lotto Park stadium with their heads held high but perhaps disappointed that they did not do more against Danish side Silkeborg, who they only narrowly beat 1-0 in the first match of their European Conference League campaign.

The Brussels club had to wait until the 81st minute to score with a penalty by Fabio Silva, managing to clinch their first victory after four games without a win in all competitions.

After the match, Anderlecht's coach Felice Mazzu praised his team's "good second half" but stated that the first half had been sub-standard.

Mazzu might have looked on with envy to his former side Union Saint-Gilloise who beat Union Berlin, currently fourth in the German Bundesliga, in their first Europa League match.

Thanks to a first-half goal by Senne Lynen, the club picked up three points from a tight game, which will have sent the 561 Union fans present in Berlin home happy.
