From Friday evening, no one will need to sleep outside at the Ter Apel registration centre in the Netherlands, according to the Dutch State Secretary for Asylum, Eric van der Burg.
Anyone who wishes can be accommodated in Ter Apel or at another reception location, van der Burg told the Dutch news agency, ANP. He said more than 100 people who were still in the forecourt of the reception centre on Friday evening were now being transferred to various locations.
Van der Burg visited Ter Apel on Friday evening, speaking with some of the asylum seekers still in the compound. He also met with a number of mayors, the police and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers.
On Thursday, about 300 people had spent the night outside the gates of the reception centre. On the previous nights, dozens of people did so, while many shelters were added in the past week.
