The Ukrainian authorities on Friday exhumed two bodies in Grakové, a village in northeastern Ukraine that has been recaptured from Russian troops.

Police from the Kharkiv region, where the village is located, and the prosecutor's office of the neighbouring town of Chuguyv conducted the excavation in the presence of about twenty journalists.

Serguiï Loutsai, a resident of Grakové, told the media that he had buried the bodies in March, shortly after the invasion began on February 24, under threat from armed Russian soldiers.

The investigation, led by the prosecutor's office, will seek to determine the causes and circumstances of the deaths of the two men, who were in their thirties.

Police say at least one of the two men was buried with his ears cut off.
