Belgium will be among nations using Pfizer’s vaccine against the Wuhan variant and the omikron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5 of the novel Coronavirus in its vaccination campaign against the virus, the country's health ministers have decided.

On Monday, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave the green light for the use of the vaccine, as it had already done for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines against the BA.1-omikron subvariant, already being used in the new vaccination campaign.

The Inter-ministerial Conference also decided on Wednesday to accept the delivery of the vaccine against sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5, as most other European countries have done. It will be ready for use in future deliveries in a few weeks, along with the 1,748,160 modified Pfizer vaccines already delivered and the 403,800 modified Moderna vaccines.

People who had already been boosted in summer with an original vaccine, such as some of the inhabitants of residential care centers, the over-80s and healthcare professionals, are again eligible for a next booster - at least three months after their last jab - with a modified vaccine.
