Between 6 and 12 August, an average 1,664 new Covid-19 cases were detected per day in Belgium, up 8% from the previous week, according to figures from the Sciensano public health institute, updated on Friday morning.
Over the same period, an average 6.4 people died per day while carrying the virus (+15%), bringing the death toll since the start of the pandemic in Belgium to 32,625.
An average of about 8,700 tests were carried out daily, with a positivity rate of 20.1%. Between 9 and 15 August, there were on average 55.6 hospital admissions each day due to Covid-19, down 7% from the previous reporting period.
The number of people hospitalised with Covid-19 is now 707, including 56 in intensive care.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 0.97. When it is less than 1, this indicator means the epidemic is slowing down.
The incidence of the virus - the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over a 14-day period - is now 194.
