Namur – Hearing delayed due to uncooperative attitude of the accused

On Tuesday morning, the hearing of Daniel Derlet at the Namur Court was delayed.  Derlet, who is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend Carine Ruth, on September 4th, 2012, refused to let himself be searched at Lantin Prison (Liège) where he is currently incarcerated. The 45 year-old man has been in custody since September 10th, 2012, when he confessed to breaking into the apartment of his ex and shooting her before leaving.

Because of his uncooperative attitude, his transfer to Namur was delayed. Witnesses were scheduled to testify at 9:00AM but had to wait. Derlet finally agreed to be searched but by 10:00 AM had still not arrived.

During questioning Monday, the accused appeared annoyed and insolent, even refusing to answer questions by the judge or the civil party lawyer, Mr. Devaux, about his relationship with Carine Ruth.

He admitted to killing Carine Ruth but denies planning it in advance. He stated that he acted without thinking; however several elements prove that his act was premeditated. At the end of this week, jurors will have to decide whether or not it was a premeditated crime.
