Pedestrian dies after being hit by tram in Schaerbeek

The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that a man died after being hit by a tram in Schaerbeek on Friday, with an investigation having since been launched to ascertain the circumstances behind the accident.

At around 20:30 on Boulevard Lambermont between the Demolder and Paul Brien tram stops, a man walking his dog was hit by a tram.

The man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died on Saturday from his injuries.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has since opened an investigation into the accident and confirmed that "the tram driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the occurrence."

They also stated that the conductor was questioned the night of the tragedy and was in a state of shock.
