Two young women from West Flanders died in a road accident on the A24 motorway near Rome, Italy on Saturday night.
The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the news on Sunday after several Belgian media outlets had reported on the story.
Italian state media confirmed that the young women on Saturday evening had gotten out of a hire car on the A24 motorway, in order to help people who had been involved in another accident, that occurred moments before.
Suddenly, a vehicle then drove up and hit them head-on, throwing them metres away.
According to available information, a suspect was identified by the police and taken to the offices for investigation. The traffic police are investigating.
