FIFA will distribute $209 million (€215 million) to clubs that release their internationals for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the international football federation announced on Tuesday.
Each club will receive about $10,000 (€10,280) per day for the release of one of its players, including during the official preparation before the tournament, which will take place from 20 November to 18 December.
This compensation will be paid to all the clubs for which the footballer played in the two years preceding the World Cup, the organisation added.
FIFA had set up this system ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, after agreement with the powerful European Club Association (ECA), whose members provide most of the participants in international competitions.
At the 2018 World Cup, 416 clubs from 63 national federations shared an equivalent amount.
