The Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon (N-VA) has given Svetlana Tikhanovskaïa, exiled leader of the Belarusian opposition movement, access to one of his government's unoccupied offices in Brussels.

This follows an earlier mission that Jambon made to Lithuania in the spring, where he met Tikhanovskaïa, the losing candidate at the heavily contested 2020 presidential election in Belarus. During the visit, he examined the different ways in which Flanders could help the repressed citizens’ movement in Belarus.

As a result, the Flemish Government has since granted financial support to two opposition movements to the dictatorial regime of President Alexander Lukashenko.

Furthermore, Tikhanovskaïa had made it known that she wanted to have an office in Brussels, capital of the European Union and seat of NATO.

To that end, Jan Jambon decided to hand the keys to an office belonging to the Flemish Community on Rue d'Arenberg in Brussels that was unoccupied.

Translation of tweet: "Proud to give Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya and her team an office in the heart of Brussels. Just handed her the key. A small material help in a great struggle for freedom, against tyranny."
