What is crucial for us is that we make the environment and the climate a priority in everything we do. We consider it one of our most important tasks to reduce environmental impact. Here is an overview of some of the measures we take at Thon Hotels.
1. We grow food on the roof
We have a vegetable garden on several of our rooftops that we use for cooking, such as pumpkins, zucchini and rhubarb. The garden allows us to test a whole new way of growing food in the city that is both economical and sustainable. Employees volunteer to tend the garden, making it their own project. With this initiative, our hotels and employees are setting an example, as the roofs of the future must be green.
2. We donate our textiles
Did you know that the textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world? We donate used clothing, bedding, furniture, etc. to various social institutions such as Les Petits Riens, Samu Social and the Red Cross. As a consumer, you can also make choices that help reduce environmental damage. This can be as simple as looking for high quality clothing that has a long life span.
3. We have 421 solar panels and counting
A total of 421 solar panels, 232 of which have been installed at the Thon Hotel Bristol Stephanie since 2021. The supplier of our solar panels has planted one tree per solar panel. At the Stanhope Hotel Brussels, we expect to save 169 tons of CO2 over 25 years with 54 solar panels, and our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources.
4. We make full use of our coffee
Every time you drink a cup of coffee at Thon Hotels, you are contributing to a better life. Our collaborator Puro is certified by the Fairtrade Foundation and is committed to purchasing all of its coffee beans from fair trade cooperatives. In addition, Puro uses the profits from each bag of coffee sold to purchase and protect rainforest areas in South America.
5. We rethink the way you move
Transportation causes greenhouse gas emissions and is problematic for our health and the health of our animals. Thus, rethinking the way we move is at the heart of our sustainable approach. We have 40 parking spaces for electric cars, 4 bike parks with recharging stations, we are located close to metro, bus and train stations, and finally, “Villo!” cards for city bikes are available to guests at the reception.
Our priority now is to continue and expand our efforts to manage our activities with the least possible impact on the environment.
