In an interview aired on Sunday, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo called protests that attack renowned artworks as "vandalism," despite protestors garnering support of members of the Belgian Royal Family.

To raise awareness about climate change and global warming, scores of protestors have attached themselves to the frames of iconic artworks in museums around Europe, with others dousing them with soup.

For Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) however, this still constitutes "vandalism" and said as much when asked about these incidents on RTL, and does not see these protests as "a solution to anything."

His view however was not shared by Princess Esmeralda, aunt of reigning monarch King Philippe, who deemed it “normal” that people turn towards civil disobedience, as “people are afraid, they are worried about their future."

Furthermore, known for her climate activism, she will also be attending COP27 in the coming days, as will Prime Minister De Croo.
