Metro services between Merode (next to Parc du Cinquantenaire) and Herrmann-Debroux (where Brussels borders with Flanders) will be interrupted this weekend, public transport operator STIB has announced.

Due to maintenance and renewal works on the infrastructure of the lines near Hankar metro station in the municipality of Auderghem, metro line 5 will be interrupted from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November.

This means that metros will not stop at the following station: Thieffry, Pétillon, Hankar, Delta, Beaulieu, Demey and Herrman-Debroux.

Shuttle buses (M-buses) will operate for passengers wishing to travel between these two stations during the long weekend. From Merode, the metros will be diverted to Stockel (joining the metro line 1 Stockel-West station).

The works are part of a larger project to renew the Brussels metro and increase the frequency of vehicles travelling on every line. For this to work efficiently, a second access to the Delta depot is necessary.

To make this possible, STIB is extending an existing parking track from the Delta metro depot to metro line 5, just before Hankar station, where a new switch system will be created.
