A man who killed more than 50 people in an attack on two mosques in New Zealand in 2019 is appealing against his conviction and sentence.
Australian Brenton Tarrant was sentenced in 2020 to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The court in Christchurch, New Zealand, confirmed on Tuesday that an appeal has been filed in the case, but said a hearing had not yet been scheduled.
Tarrant had confessed to the murder of 51 people, attempted murder of 40 others and committing a terrorist attack.
The then 28-year-old Tarrant had opened fire on mosque-goers on 15 March 2019 during Friday prayers. He filmed his act and streamed it on social media.
