The announced round of layoffs at Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company, will also affect employees in Brussels as the commercial department was dismissed with immediate effect.
News of the layoffs was communicated to the roughly 30 employees of the social media group Meta Platforms early this week. Facebook's parent company resides in Regent Park, the office building a few metres from the royal palace and the US embassy.
Commercial operations will be transferred to Ireland and the Netherlands. The sales team in Brussels was made redundant with immediate effect, De Tijd and L'Echo report.

The decision is part of the global wave of layoffs announced by Meta earlier this week. In a letter, founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that more than 11,000 employees will lose their jobs.
Alexis Lebedoff, who has led Meta's operations in Belgium since 2012, is also being sacked. As Facebook's first employee in Belgium, he was a pioneer of the start-up ecosystem in the country, Belga News Agency reports.
