Dresden police officers resolved a hostage situation in which a perpetrator had taken two people hostage. The perpetrator has been arrested, while the hostages, a woman and a child, are unharmed, according to local police.
An armed man had killed a woman in the outskirts of Dresden, in the Prohlis district, Saturday morning, German news reported. According to Tag24, the victim was the 62-year-old mother of the suspect.
The suspect, a 40-year-old German man tried entering local radio station Radio Dresden through an emergency exit. After his attempt failed, he escaped in a car to a shopping arcade in the city centre.
There, the suspect took a woman and a child hostage while wielding a gun.
Local police have confirmed that the hostage situation has ended and the hostages are unharmed. The police gave no further detals on the motives of the perpetrator. But according to Tag24, the hostage situation was linked to the murder.
Dresden city centre was closed off Saturday morning and not accessible by possible transport. Police also closed off the famous Striezelmarkt Christmas market.
