On Wednesday afternoon, a dead washed up on the beach in the Flemish coastal municipality of Ostend, the local police confirmed.
The body washed ashore shortly after 13:30 on Wednesday on the beach at Koningin Astridlaan.
Police closed off the area around the corpse to undertake the first investigations, Belga News Agency reports.

An expert from the Public Prosecutor's Office has been charged with identifying the victim and determining the cause of death.
In the meantime, the body was removed from the beach.
Police have confirmed a full investigation is underway.
