False certificates concern 85% of complaints against doctors

Complaisance certificates concern 80 to 85% of complaints sent to the Order of Doctors, according to the vice-president Jean-Jacques Rombouts. He was quoted by the Sudpresse papers on Saturday. In 2014, 462 complaints about doctors were validated in Belgium, and 146 led to sanctions. “In general, schools, employers or insurers contact us to warn us about false certificates”, says the vice-president of the Order of Doctors.

When the complaint is validated, the doctor gets a warning. They may then be reprimanded. It is also possible they may be prevented from practising for a period of 1 day to 2 years, depending on the seriousness of the offense. They could even have their license revoked.
