Europe is experiencing the most devastating bird flu season in its history, with about 50 million birds slaughtered in infected farms, according to European health authorities.

Between October 2021 and September 2022, 37 European countries were affected by the disease.

Nearly 2,500 outbreaks were identified in poultry farms across the continent, according to a report by the European Food Safety Authority, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the European Union Reference Laboratory.

Bird flu is a highly contagious viral disease to which all bird species are likely to be susceptible. There is no scientific indication that this virus is also harmful to humans.
