Prices at discount stores such as Aldi and Lidl have risen faster over the past year than at other supermarket chains, according to calculations by data provider Daltix, Flemish-language newspapers reported on Wednesday.

Aldi and Lidl mainly sell private labels and these have risen twice as fast as national brands since December 2021, De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad, Gazet van Antwerpen and het Belang van Limburg reported.

Factors such as the sharp rise in raw materials and energy costs have a greater impact on the final price of private labels, Daltix explained.

According to the data provider, prices have risen by an average of 13.09% at Lidl and 13.99% at Aldi over the past year.

Price increases were most contained at Delhaize: +4.66%.

Colruyt occupies an intermediate position, with prices up by 7.76%.
