Following the Royal Meteorological Institute's (RMI) warning of bad weather, the Federal Public Service for Home Affairs activated the 1722 emergency number for non-life-threatening situations.

Those who need fire brigade assistance in case of storm and water damage, but whose lives are not in danger, can therefore temporarily submit an application via the e-counter www.1722.be or call 1722.

An operator from the 112 emergency centres will answer the call but will give priority to the most urgent calls – directed to the 112 emergency number, to help those in a potentially life-threatening situation.

This afternoon, the Brussels fire brigade was called for an incident with a fallen tree that landed on several cars. "One person was injured in the process and taken to hospital. A second tree was also removed to secure the situation at the scene," the spokesperson said.
