A man, his ex-girlfriend and two children died late Friday afternoon in Vaudignies, Hainaut Province, after a family dispute, local media reported.
The man allegedly doused his ex-girlfriend with petrol and burnt her at her home, where she had been living since early December. He then fled in a car with his two children, but the vehicle caught fire. The burnt bodies of the two children and the man were found in the car.
The mayor of Chièvres, Olivier Hartiel, confirmed the four deaths.
The Mons-Tournai public prosecutor’s office was notified of the incident and the judicial police and laboratory went to the scene. The circumstances and reasons for the tragedy were still to be determined.
