A man wounded several people on Wednesday at the busy Gare du Nord train station in Paris, according to French authorities.
France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed on Twitter that the man has been arrested and was slightly injured by police who, according to AFP, resorted to using their weapon. It is still unknown what the attacker's motives were.
Police sources told Le Figaro that the incident occurred at 6:45 local time on Wednesday morning. Six people have been reported as having been wounded during the attack, including a police officer.
According to the source, the police officer was not on duty but was wearing a bulletproof vest which saved him when he was attacked in the back by the assailant.
A separate police source told AFP that the wounded sustained only minor injuries.
The incident has caused major delays in the busy train terminal during morning traffic, according to train operator SNCF.
