The basins of a number of rivers in the Walloon province of Luxembourg Wallonia are now under a "pre-flood" alert due to the heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, and are expected to remain on alert in the coming hours.

Following the heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, a rise in water levels has been observed in the Basse Semois basin and its river branches, which have been placed on a "pre-flood" alert, warned the Walloon hydrometric portal, which monitors the water levels in the region, on Thursday.

"Given the weather forecast, the levels of the rivers will once again trend upwards and the pre-alert thresholds could be reached overnight from Thursday to Friday," the portal announced on its Twitter account.

The basins of the Vierre, Chiers, Moyenne and Haute Semois rivers, as well as the Sûre river, are all included in this "pre-flood" alert. "The levels will evolve slowly upwards and should reach their maximum on Friday late afternoon while remaining below the alert thresholds."

For the time being, the rest of the Walloon territory is considered as being in a "normal" phase,
