Vigilance has been stepped up along Wallonia's roads, the Road Action Cell, CAR, warned on Monday, shortly after it was activated due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Cell, composed of the Walloon Regional Crisis Centre (CRC-W), Perex Centre and Federal Road Police, was activated on Monday evening due to the bad weather in the region.

The heavy rainfall of the last few days and the expected drop in temperatures are likely to make roads slippery throughout Wallonia on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, according to the CAR. Snowfall has also been forecast in highland areas.

No traffic restrictions have been imposed, but the staff of the Walloon Public Service have been mobilised to ensure maximum safety for users and to maintain good traffic conditions.

The CAR is calling on users to remain cautious and vigilant if they have to use the road. It invites them to anticipate the risks, especially in exposed areas such as bridges, and to find out about traffic conditions on the Walloon network before any departures (http://trafiroutes.wallonie.be or http://www.inforoutes.be).
