The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a "code yellow" warning for slippery roads on Thursday morning. Drivers have been warned to apply extra caution on icy roads around Brussels, Wallonia and the provinces of Limburg and the Flemish Brabant.

The IRM warning was put in place on Wednesday evening at 23:00 and will remain in place until late morning in Brussels, Wallonia, and Hainaut, and until 17:00 in Liège, Namur, and Luxembourg.

Translation of tweet: "Warning for slippy roads from 25 January at 23:00 until 26 January at 17:00: Tonight (Wednesday evening), precipitations will start at the coast before spreading over the western part of the country."

The organisation has urged caution throughout the day, with further sub-zero temperatures forecast for Friday and the weekend.
